RHYTHMIC CONNECTIONS OF LIFE AND ENERGY
Drawing
Prismacolor and pencil on paper
My body of work investigates the natural, physical and metaphorical properties of flora as I am attracted to the aesthetics of this subject. The work represents the complexity and interconnectedness of systems in nature by exploring the patterns and repetition I have observed. I used pencil work to express the individual details and vibrancy of the flowers, accentuating the flow and movement of colour across the drawings.
My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Georgia O'Keeffe, Ellis Rowan, Rachel Ruysch.
Marker's Commentary
This body of work is a sustained series of seven highly observed drawings with a thoughtful and sophisticated mix of monochrome and colour. The work is well refined with crisp edges that accentuate detail and form. Each work in the Rhythmic Connections of Life and Energy series is an exploration of how pattern ties the work to the concept of rhythm. An engaging sense of movement is created through the repetition of shapes and motifs. Synergy is demonstrated between the richness of materials which strengthen the connection to life and energy that flow through living things. The curatorial practice invites a further negotiation and considered reading of the work presented as a contained series of artworks. This demonstrates restraint, cohesiveness, and confidence.
