SUNLIGHT DWELLS IN THE FAMILIAR
Drawing
Coloured pencils, pen, ink
My intent in Sunlight Dwells in the Familiar is to celebrate everyday life through a joyous array of vibrant colours. As beings that thrive on variety, it’s natural to become jaded and uninspired in our daily routines. We look forward to events outside the ordinary as an escape from the mundane. My body of work challenges the viewer to admire the beautiful little pockets of sunlight that dwell within their own familiar setting, to be present and recognise the excitement and growth that can be found today, whether you are in a place of familiarity or uncharted territory.
Marker's Commentary
Sunlight dwells in the familiar is a confident Body of Work that richly presents a celebration of the everyday, through a sunlight filter. The self-assured relationships between ordinary spaces and experiences of a day-in-the-life snapshots are executed in a naïve and idiosyncratic manner with vivid bright ink and textured colour pencil rendering. Expressive gestural mark making references the gentle rhythm of the domestic and common place in our lives. Considered cropping and engaging compositions and viewpoints invite the viewer into the familiar space of the home, reiterated in personal experience and memory. The curated imagery within this body of work evokes a knowing sense of comfort and empathy in celebrating the mood and atmosphere created.
