With the rapid rise of globalisation and interdependence between religions, cultures and countries, it is crucial to recognise the significance of one's origins and heritage. Using digital and physical 3D models, my body of work examines culturally significant / prominent architectural styles across a wide range of cultural backgrounds. The work is intended to be a disorienting integration of the various architectural styles, simultaneously representing the gradual unity of cultures and the sustained division between them. My work expresses the segregation which persists within our modern society as well as the importance of humanity's diversity and cultural independence.
My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Ian Stuart Campbell, Yayoi Kusama.
Marker's Commentary
Global Symphony presents a series of architectural inspired digital images and striking 3D models. The futuristic Designed Object submission cleverly amalgamates the visions and methodologies found within historical and contemporary architecture practice. The visionary blueprints and rendered buildings in the digital prints highlight the investigation not only of the shapes, lines and forms but propose the adoption of wide-ranging, stylistic influences from around the world, particularly Asian and European. One plan showcases a re-evaluation with the shell-like forms of the Sydney Opera House. These ideas are interpreted, most dynamically within the three conceptual architectural models presented in a coated silver patina. The title, Global Symphony suggests the unification of places of cultural importance, allowing the audience to consider individual freedom, the bridging of cultures and increasing universal societies. The handling and demonstration of digital practices and postproduction, combined with the well-executed models skilfully unites this body of work.
