Photomedia

An individual work or series of works in black and white and/or colour made using wet (darkroom) and/or digital practices (Visual Arts Stage 6 Syllabus).

In 2019, students submitting a Body of Work in this expressive form revealed increased knowledge and understanding of how contemporary photographic practice can be explored through a variety of analogue and digital approaches. Through demonstrating competency with camera craft, studio and natural lighting, as well as an awareness of the importance of post-production techniques and processes to refine images, students were able to undertake subjective investigations and critiques dealing with their immediate world. Artworks were shaped by subject matter and themes including: portraiture, post production to create new worlds, composited imagery of histories and dystopian environments, landscape, still-life referencing vanitas and momento-mori, identity, environmental issues, mental health and the social and cultural impact of technology. Consideration of various factors exemplified the importance of discrimination when curating the final images, which also extended to discerning between different types of paper stock to enhance the conceptual intent of the submission.
